Taking action against violated policy is a matter of confidence; confidence that you've found only messages and files that violate policy and confidence that you've found all of the messages and files that violate policy. The greater your confidence level, the more choices you will have regarding the actions you can consider. For minor infractions you may choose simply to guide and inform the sender of the infraction. For non-critical violations, it may be to interact and educate the sender so that the message or files may be fixed. For critical violations it may require the message or file to be halted altogether.

Taking the Appropriate Prevention Action

Before the Fact

Block	This action stops messages and files that violate policy from being delivered. A notification of the block is provided to the sender, explaining the reason for the action and offering corrective instructions. Blocked messages will not be delivered without corrective action by the sender.
Correct	Assist the user in correcting the violation before it is sent, uploaded or saved.
Embed	Embed additional information to the message or file to make it fully compliant.
Inform	The detected violation generates a warning relating to the specific violation. The sender has the option of correcting the violation or ignoring (overriding) the warning.
Quarantine	Messages and files that violate policy are forwarded to a quarantine queue for later review and do not leave your environment. The sender is informed of the violation and notified that the message or file in question is being held for review. The reviewer will ultimately make the determination if the message should be released for transmission or if it should be rejected.

After the Fact

Alert	Alert the appropriate reviewer of a potential violation committed by a sender. This message or file is subject to review.
Supervise	At this stage the message or file may be reviewed. As part of the workflow, the violation in question can be escalated or closed out if deemed appropriate for additional action.
Capture	The message or file can be captured with any relevant data. This includes information such as what caused the violation and any follow up action which was done.
Classify	Additional metadata information can be appended to the record which includes retention information and specified location for archive storage and retrieval.
