The volume of digital data created each year continues to grow and concurrently, data has become easier to move, copy and share – regardless of the size and format of the documents and files. Data resides is so many locations within an enterprise - on massive shared folders and document repositories, on workstations and in collaboration and other application environments – that it is increasingly more difficult to know what information is actually “out there”. Compounding the data proliferation problem is that the data across these locations have become increasingly unstructured making it difficult to find with simple content searches. These are real challenges for organizations looking to effectively find and protect the sensitive information that it requires. Manual discovery and existing data storage practices have been proven ineffective and extremely time consuming.

Orchestria Stored Data Control finds and protects stored information across the enterprise - in file systems, content repositories, SAN/NAS and in collaboration tools such as Microsoft’s SharePoint and Exchange Public Folders. The product helps to find where sensitive information of all types is stored and who has access to that data based on highly accurate policies. Information can be non-public such as pre-release financials or executive communications; it can be personal and contain employee or customer identity data; it can be intellectual property with product and strategy plans; or, it can be in some other kind of risk category that equally requires proper protection and access oversight.

Deployed to scan distributed systems within the organization, Orchestria discovers and remediates the risk of sensitive data-at-rest. Orchestria Stored Data Control monitors and controls data loss with real time analysis of files and provides the ability to take actions such as move, copy, replace, classify or delete information based on policy violations. Once a document’s contents have been analyzed and matched to the comprehensive criteria in Orchestria policies, Orchestria can classify the data-at-rest by adding “Smart Tags” or categories directly to a document. This is a powerful capability as the Smart Tag can be used for downstream control however the file may be used – such as in e-mail, transported via FTP or uploaded to a website.

Independent multi-tasking	Perform an unlimited number of tasks, each with its own set of defined local or remote scanning locations. Tasks can be executed on-demand or during scheduled times.
Performance and Scalability	Deploy entirely within the file server, repository or collaboration server, or deploy as a remote scanning server. The highly scalable and distributed architecture allows data to be scanned at rates exceeding 500GB per hour.
Custom scanning tasks	Enhanced options include the ability to ignore files which have not changed since the last scan. Task priority can be adjusted to maximize scanning performance while minimizing system impact.
Incident appropriate response	Once sensitive information is discovered, it can be deleted, copied or moved to another location. Source files can even be replaced with a stub file of the same name containing an informational message. Also, source document properties can be set to specific values for use in downstream analysis and control.
NIST-NSRL Exclusion	Exclude known application program files which are positively identified from the National Software Reference Library (NSRL) maintained by the US National Institute of Science and Technology (NIST).
Accuracy	Deep content inspection with the ability to leverage identity, context and concepts within detection methods, reduce the possibility of tagging a document incorrectly and ensures that all potential threats are controlled.
