Breakthrough approach dramatically reduces enterprise risk, operational burden, and technology cost.
New York, NY - September 19, 2007
Orchestria, the leader in the rapidly growing Electronic Control software category,
has introduced the first next-generation data loss prevention (DLP) solution.
Orchestria’s new DLP software is a breakthrough in preventing the loss
of personally identifiable information and intellectual property through uncontrolled
message, Web, and file activity.
The escalating growth of control-free electronic communication has led to a
significant increase in financial, legal, and public relations risk for Global
2000 companies and government agencies. A typical employee generates approximately
200 e-mails, messages, and files per day, of which more than 0.1% may be harmful.
For an average company with 25,000 employees, this violation rate translates
into 5,000 violations per day or 1.25 million potentially damaging actions per
year.
Unlike first-generation DLP software, Orchestria provides coverage across all
points of risk within an enterprise, detects violations accurately with minimal
false positives, and can proactively block true infractions.
Orchestria Multi-Layered Defense
Orchestria Multi-Layered Defense leverages
multiple network, server, client, import and archive agents to ensure control
across all forms of electronic data, including messages with encrypted and password-protected
files, internal messages, disconnected laptops, files at rest, and mobile storage
devices – most of which are ignored by first-generation solutions.
Within this approach, Orchestria’s new Network Boundary Agent reassembles
messages, Web pages, and files into whole objects at gigabit wire speed, enabling
deeper analysis for greater detection accuracy. Orchestria’s new File Scanning
Agent executes high-performance analysis of data in file systems, content repositories,
and collaboration tools (e.g., Microsoft’s Sharepoint, Exchange Public
Folders and IBM Lotus Notes) at rates exceeding 500 GB per hour.
Orchestria Full-Dimensional Analysis
Limited to content-focused inspection,
first-generation platforms falsely flag numerous legitimate messages. These “false
positives” create a significant review burden and prevent organizations
from implementing controls that block or correct messages before they are sent
or files before they are saved.
Orchestria’s Full-Dimensional Analysis not only analyzes content, but also
dynamically examines content-around-content, message context, the identity of
sender and recipients, hierarchy, and user input. This approach can reduce false
positives by more than 90% compared to first-generation solutions.
"Inaccurate technologies producing false positive and negative events can
be completely ineffective," said Jon Oltsik, Senior Analyst at the Enterprise
Strategy Group. "Given this, Orchestria's intelligent approach to detection
accuracy and policy granularity is the right combination for these difficult
enterprise requirements.”
Orchestria Incident-Appropriate Action
Far beyond passive post-incident
review employed by first-generation technologies, Orchestria proactively protects
enterprises by matching responses specifically to the type and severity of the
violation.
In addition to providing the industry’s leading workflow-enabled review
capability, Orchestria supports a variety of “before-the-send” actions,
including blocking, correcting, and quarantining. This solution also automatically
classifies, routes, and stores sensitive messages and files to meet a variety
of records management and legal mandates.
Dr. Sara Radicati of The Radicati Group said, “The key advantage with Orchestria
DLP is responding to potential violations with automated incident-appropriate
actions – from a routine warning, to forwarding to a supervisor, to nothing
at all. As it all happens in real time, customers will know that their messages
haven’t been banished to a backed-up review queue for hours or even days.”
“Orchestria’s DLP solution provides a new and different approach
that fulfills all requirements for effective protection,” said Bo Manning,
Orchestria’s president and chief executive officer. “It covers all
points of risk within the enterprise, accurately distinguishes violations from
false positives, and enables the right action, including proactive protection – all
on the industry’s most flexible architecture.”
About Orchestria
Orchestria is the global leader in Electronic Control software that substantially
mitigates the risk from the explosion of uncontrolled electronic actions such
as message, Web and file activity. The company’s Intelligent Control Layer
provides the key underlying capability to effectively automate four converging
and ultimately overlapping corporate functions, including Data Loss Prevention,
Intelligent Compliance, Legal Hold, and Records and Information Management.
Orchestria’s technology ensures that employees who intend to do damage
are stopped, while empowering employees who inadvertently breach policy to correct
their actions before they do harm.
Deployed across more than 250 companies in 33 countries worldwide, Orchestria
intelligently analyzes and actively controls more than 80 million electronic
actions every day. The company has 40 patents granted or pending in the field
of Electronic Control. For more information, visit

About the Orchestria Whole Object Network Boundary Agent
Orchestria’s Whole Object Network Boundary Agent (NBA) reconstructs complete
objects – including messages, files, Web pages and Webmail – in real
time and at full gigabit wire speed to reduce false positive and negative detections
more than 90% from first-generation DLP products. Featuring complete violation
reports showing an entire infraction in its proper context, captured objects
are automatically fed into the Orchestria CMS: a centralized supervision and
review system with full workflow, escalation, and audit.
Purpose-built for deep-packet analysis, the massively scalable Orchestria NBA
utilizes no less than six processing nodes – each with its own CPU and
memory that can be expanded in groups of four up to 22 nodes – to identify
and rebuild objects without limiting network performance. With optional hardware
accelerators that decode SSL-encrypted traffic, even secure sessions can be checked,
without the need for a third-party product.
A true bridge device rather than a proxy, Orchestria NBA requires zero reconfiguration
of any other system or device on the network. Moreover, built-in hardware and
software monitoring ensures fail-safe performance even if a critical component
should fail.
The Orchestria NBA can be deployed actively with dual fail-safe ports or passively
connected to a router SPAN port, managed switch, or network hub. The device is
also capable of address and port filtering, allowing secure sources such as mail
servers protected by an Orchestria server agent to be excluded.
About the Orchestria File Scanning Agent
Orchestria’s new File Scanning Agent (FSA) executes high-performance analysis
of data in file systems, content repositories, and stored in such collaboration
tools as Microsoft’s SameTime and Exchange Public Folders.
Individual FSAs can independently run an unlimited number of tasks, each with
its own set of defined local or remote scanning locations. Tasks can be one-time,
run continuously, at a set frequency, or at a given time of day. Scanning options
include the ability to ignore files that have not changed since the last scan
without relying on unreliable operating system flags. Task priority can be adjusted
to maximize scanning performance, minimize system impact, or anywhere in between.
Featuring a highly scalable architecture that can analyze data at rates exceeding
500GB per hour, each FSA can be set to automatically exclude known application
program files positively identified by the National Software Reference Library
(NSRL). By retaining digital signatures of more than 40 million traceable files
distributed by application vendors, the NSRL allows a significant proportion
of stored data to be excluded after verifying that the file is still in its original
form.
