Orchestria Smart Tagging™ and Symantec Enterprise Vault dramatically reduce storage and retrieval costs

Orchestria Corporation, a global leader in software designed to manage threats associated with electronic communication, and Symantec Corporation (Nasdaq: SYMC) today announced an agreement to offer Orchestria's Smart Tagging™ technology to Symantec's Enterprise Vault™ customers. Smart Tagging allows customers to reduce archival storage costs, ongoing litigation risk and back-end search and discovery costs by automatically and flexibly classifying incoming messages.

Orchestria is part of the Symantec Intelligent Archiving Partner program, developed to provide customers with more information regarding the content and context of their data in order to make more informed decisions around archiving, storage, retention and discovery. Symantec has partnered with a number of content classification and records management software providers to help customers using Enterprise Vault reduce their storage costs, eliminate unnecessary litigation risks and minimize the time and cost involved in discovery and search.

Based on defined policies, Orchestria's technology accurately identifies the relevance of each communication and creates metadata with specific characteristics about each message. This metadata can be used to drive:

• Reduced archival storage costs by storing less critical archived items on cheaper archival storage. For example, customers could choose to automatically store well-known newsletters that employees receive on NAS or tape storage, while retaining business communications on more expensive WORM storage.
• Managed litigation risk by retaining information only as long as it is required to be kept. Standard contracts could be identified and kept for the retention period specified by the company - and no longer.
• Faster discovery by focusing legal searches on specific categories of information. For example, company lawyers could use Enterprise Vault Discovery Accelerator to search through the archive and possibly focus the search in on documents that have been identified as "Company Confidential."
